Description including Unit Aims
This is a mandatory 10cp unit which forms part of the 180cp MRes in Advanced Composites. It will introduce the concept of smart materials, their properties, modelling and practical applications.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- Understand what smart materials are and their relationship and applications to composites materials
- Be able to use the constitutive equations related to smart materials and apply them to design engineering applications (smart composites, micro-sensors with composite components)
- Be able to perform multiphysics modelling activities in simulation environments such as Finite Element, and to understand the capabilities and properties of multiphysics modellers available for the composite designer.
Teaching Information
Lectures and lab classes.
Assessment Information
100% coursework.
