This unit is intended to develop professional research skills for planning scientific/engineering research projects with academic and industrial impacts. The students will learn how to critically review research papers in the area of interest, identify potential research subjects, and propose research projects, which are the core skills underpinning a successful research career. The activities within this unit are aligned with their individual research projects.
On successful completion of the unit, students will be able to:
The unit will comprise seminars, tutorials, individual works on literature reviews related to research projects.
The details of the assessments and weighting for each assessment is as follows
A. Journal Club: A series of short presentations (not assessed).
B. Journal Club: Report in a form of a project proposal – 30%
C. Literature Review: A report in a form of a review paper – 70%.
Appropriate references are supplied on the lectures for each component of the course. For the review element, students are advised individually by their project supervisor(s) on appropriate references depending on their project.
