Description including Unit Aims

This unit will enable a student on CDS MSc programmes to work with a tutor to investigate an area of scholarly academic and/or professional interest through the preparation of an assignment which may take the form of a literature review, academic paper or project report. Under the guidance of a tutor who has agreed to provide appropriate support, the student will prepare a short proposal and undertake independent study in accordance with guidelines. The outcome will involve the production of a piece of work of an appropriate length for assessment. Acceptance on the unit will be on the proviso that the work done is not covered by content otherwise available to the student through attendance of other units in the programme.
