Description including Unit Aims

This unit will be an introduction to the 'Reflective Practitioner'. Students will represent their Helping Work Placements to the learning group, through which we will explore a range of practice issues. Although the focus is on current workplace roles (ie. helping) it will also look forward to the counsellor role which the Intermediate level will contain.

Aims:

This unit aims to introduce students to a range of practice issues through reviewing the spectrum of Helping placements which the group brings.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this unit will enable students to:

1. Analyse the workings of Reflective Practice and the role of Reflective Practitioner

2. Identify and evaluate support mechanisms

3. Explore and initially reflect on limits to own practice and examine the referral process

4. Compare and contrast Agency cultures

5. Describe and evaluate own Helping role

Lectures, Small group work, Seminars, Presentations, e-learning

Assessment Information

Assessment is through:

  • A presentation critically reviewing the students helping placement (75%)
  • A written reflective self-evaluation on the above, 1,000 words (25%).
