Description

• Within this unit, students will extend their knowledge of dynamics and learn how mathematical descriptions of aircraft motions are developed. In anticipation of the aircraft design studies in final year, processes will be developed for establishing conditions for static flight balance and flight stability. This implies knowledge of the principal forces acting on the whole aircraft, and methods for predicting or describing these will be revealed.

Intended learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Model the forces acting upon an aircraft to determine its motion, flight balance, and stability
  • Analyse the effect of control inputs on aircraft dynamics

Teaching details

Teaching will be delivered through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, which may include lectures, practical activities supported by drop-in sessions, problem sheets and self-directed exercises.

Assessment Details

Coursework in the form of a written report.
