Safe Space Policy

This policy was adopted by the Explorers committee in November 2013. Please ask any member of the committee if you have any questions about this policy or would like more information.

Explorers is a safe and fun society for all. No member should ever feel unsafe, threatened, harassed or discriminated against in any of our events or activities.

This policy is not "new". We are not adopting it because of any past incidents or to change the way Explorers runs. This policy reflects how Explorers is already and promises that we'll try and keep it that way.

Explorers does not tolerate harassment or discrimination, in particular relating to sex, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, nationality, race, appearance, religion, mental or physical disability.

Explorers is proud of its diversity: we have members from many different nationalities and cultures. Both men and women are well-represented among our members.

Explorers respects everyone's right to drink as little alcohol as they wish including none, or as much as they can handle.

Explorers is part of UBU, the Bristol students' union. We happily follow their policies including "zero tolerance for sexual harassment", "safe space" and "end rape culture".

If you at any time feel unsafe, threatened or harassed, we encourage you to tell someone. You can speak to whoever you feel you can trust, either on the Explorers committee or any of the student union officers. We promise to treat all you say seriously and confidentially and to do our best to help you. We are also happy to listen to any comments on changes we could make, however big or small, to improve Explorers as a society.
