Non-guaranteed undergraduate applicants
Students who are joining the University through clearing, as an insurance choice or have missed the guarantee deadline can apply for University-allocated accommodation as soon as they have firmly accepted their study place.
Applying for accommodation
Non-guaranteed applicants can only begin to apply for University-allocated accommodation after their place of study at the University has been confirmed. We open the second round of applications on A level results day, but you will not be able to access the accommodation application portal until at least the day after you have formally confirmed your offer of study because UCAS updates our systems overnight.
See our non-guaranteed applicant timeline for details of the stages of the application process.
Looking in the private sector
As a non-guaranteed applicant, we strongly recommend that you begin looking for accommodation in Bristol's private rented sector alongside your University accommodation application.
How we allocate accommodation
Once you have applied for accommodation, our system allocates students to any remaining rooms that we have available. Students with a health need will be given priority.
The University is committed to creating balanced communities in all its residences, reflecting the overall profile of the student body.
- Selections are randomised within fixed criteria: student preference, gender, nationality, school type, faculty.
- Students with disabilities, health-needs or other special requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Only one offer of accommodation will be made.
All allocations to University and partnership residences are governed by the University of Bristol's Equality and Diversity Policy.
Queries about your offer
We are only able to make each student one offer of accommodation, we can not change your offer if you are unhappy with your room. For non-guaranteed students, we have very limited remaining availability.
Please check our FAQs page for answers to the most commonly asked questions about offers.
If you cannot find the answer to your question on our FAQs page then please use the information provided on the contact us page to get in touch. Please be aware that in the weeks following accommodation offers being sent out we receive a high volume of enquiries and we may not be able to respond to you immediately.

Covid-19: update on our preference and allocation policy
For your safety and wellbeing, we may need to change how we allocate students to our residences for the 20/21 academic year. Our application still allows you to select your accommodation preferences of residence and room type, however we are asking all applicants to note that these preferences are not guaranteed.
Depending on the UKs Coronavirus risk level, some residences and room types may not be available for the 20/21 academic year, and we therefore reserve the right to allocate students outside of our standard allocation policy if required for safety reasons.
