BARC Events - Public Lectures

Grace Brockington was  invited to give a public lecture on the subject of ‘Modernism and the Peace Movement in Britain, 1914-1918’ at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, USA (11 April 2013), following a positive review of her book Above the Battlefield in the Wall Street Journal.

Sam Matthews gave the annual Tennyson Society lecture in Lincoln (May 2012) and a Bindman Talk entitled 'On Holiday with the Lake Poets' at the Wordsworth Trust, Grasmere (July 2013).

Elizabeth Prettejohn gave the Paul Mellon lectures in British Art (2011) at the National Gallery, London, repeated at the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Her subject was 'The National Gallery and the English Renaissance of Art'.

Dorothy Rowe contributed to Tate Britain’s series of public talks on ‘The Status of Difference’ curated by Paul Goodwin (2008–10). She was an invited speaker, and respondent to Professor Kobena Mercer at the launch event. She also spoke at the public conference accompanying the exhibition Being British at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery, London (2009).

Madeleine Thiele gave a paper on 'The Marlborough College Paintings: An Attempt to Invert Victorian Muscular  Christianity' at All Saint's Church, Putney (April 2013).

The 'New Faces' lecture series at the Royal West of England Academy featured talks by several Bristol MA students working on British subjects. See here for more about student collaborations with RWA.
