Facilities

Situated in the middle of the University complex, the School has extensive animal accommodation, aquaria, insectary, greenhouse and plant growth facilities, a wide range of networked computers, molecular genetics, electron microscopy, microbiological, photographic and workshop areas, together with teaching laboratories and lecture theatres. A variety of specialised equipment is available for use within its research groups.

Library

The School of Biological Sciences has its own Library, which houses many biological journals and books alongside some specialist collections such as the Wiglesworth Ornithological Library. Access to other departmental libraries and many online journals is also available to Bristol Students.

Links to other institutions

The School has close research links with other universities both in the U.K. and overseas, and with other departments and associated institutions of the University including Biochemistry, Earth Sciences, Mathematics, Pathology and Microbiology, Pharmacology and Physiology; and the Veterinary School, Langford, the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and Avon Wildlife Trust. The School also collaborates with DEFRA, The Environment Agency, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Horticultural Research International as well as with commercial organisations. A number of scientific journals are edited from the School. There are also close links with the BBC Natural History Unit, Bristol.
