Mapping the world's tree canopies
A key indicator of forest health is actually the spaces between the trees, called canopy gaps. They can indicate how trees die and how forests are responding to the pressure of climate change. Researchers at Bristol have created a network of global partners sharing their forest data, so we can measure canopy gaps across the world's forests to give us a new picture of global forest health.
Debunking nuclear myths
The biggest misconception around nuclear energy is the amount of waste reactors produce. In reality, the waste from all the nuclear reactors worldwide could fit into a single football stadium. While this is still an issue that needs to be managed, it’s far less damaging than many believe.
Climate research in action
A leader on tropical insect biodiversity
Bristol’s Dr Filipe Machado França is among the 75 research leaders benefiting from £101 million investment by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to tackle major global challenges. Believing 'insects are the little things that rule the world', his project will explore the drivers and consequences of insect biodiversity changes in forests across the pantropics.
