The Department of Economics' research has been rated as excellent in the 2008 Research Assesment exercise. The Department has submitted more than 95% of eligible staff this result reflects the consistent quality of research throughout the department.

The Economics Department has an international reputation both for its teaching and its research. Courses are given by leading researchers who incorporate the very latest ideas into their teaching.

The School welcomes applications for research degrees in accounting, economics, finance and management. The PhD degree is a research qualification based on preparation of a dissertation under the supervision of one or more staff members.
