About Bristol & how to find us
If you choose to study with us, you will be joining the most popular university in Britain. More undergraduates apply to study here per place than anywhere else. This is not surprising as the university is consistently in the top eight of the research and teaching ratings. The University is situated in a lively area of the city and although it is not a campus university, the majority of its buildings are only a few minutes' walk from each other.
The department of Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences is based in the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health, Tyndall Avenue. Academic staff are located here. This is building number 42 on the precinct map. For directions, go to Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences, Tyndall Avenue on the list next to the precinct map. The School's location is listed under Policy Studies, 8 Priory Road.
Within a short distance of the department is a huge selection of places to eat and socialise when it is time to relax, and bus services are excellent into the city and to Temple Meads station.

The city of Bristol
Undoubtedly part of the attraction is the city itself. Bristol offers a brilliant nightlife featuring every type of entertainment venue you could wish. It also provides a living environment that is rich in historical, cultural and sporting diversity.
Bristol has a famous maritime history and its harbour was the chief provincial port of England in the 1700's. Its wealth from overseas trade and local industry produced stunning architecture, including large areas of Georgian and Victorian development in which the University is centrally located, and also the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. The modern city boasts five theatres, two concert halls, acres of open parks including Durdham Downs, and extensive in and out of town shopping.
The city buzzes with activity, especially when students are in session. If you are short of money and need to support your studies through part-time work, there are ample opportunities to help you get by. A wide range of accommodation suitable for students and close to the university precincts is also available, much of it in the heart of the sought after Clifton and Redland areas. The University
Bristol University was founded in 1876 and was the first higher educational institution in England to admit women on a basis of equality with men. In 1909 it received a Royal Charter from King Edward VII which enabled it to grant degrees under its own authority. It is now the 9th largest employer in the West of England and has over 3000 full time staff and almost 12000 students of which over 2000 are postgraduates and over 1000 are from overseas. Over the years it has developed an international research standing in most subject areas.
Students have a large say in all university affairs and are represented on all major committees. The student union publishes a radical student newspaper of very high acclaim and the university prints its own biweekly staff newspaper and an award-winning college alumni magazine. There is always plenty to report.
Bristol University is well-known for its full range of sports clubs and the mix of athletic achievement and social interaction that they provide. Sports facilities include a full size swimming pool, a brand new indoor tennis centre and national standard water-based all-weather facility, alongside well-manicured playing fields. The Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health features the latest fitness, weights, dance and martial arts facilities, a full-size sports hall, a healthy living centre and a sports medicine unit.
