Bristol Glaciology Centre

The Bristol Glaciology Centre uses a combination of fieldwork, remote sensing, numerical modelling and laboratory analyses to investigate the following two principal research themes.

Ice sheet processes

We measure and model glaciers and the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica, assessing how they interact with climate in the past and present, and how they may change in future.

Subglacial environments

We explore the underside of ice sheets and glaciers, such as Antarctic subglacial lakes, investigating the biogeochemical processes that occur there and the records of past climate change.

More about the group

The Low Temperature Experimental Facility (LOWTEX) is a unique national research facility focussed upon biogeochemical processes in freshwater systems, including low temperature environments.

Glaciology 65 years ago

In a talk given at the International Glaciological Society meeting in Bristol in September 2014, Prof John Nye looks back on his academic career and tells us about the history of Glaciology.
