Dorothy Hodgkin building - topping-out ceremony

A topping-out ceremony will be held at 11.30 am tomorrow [Friday, July 12] in the £18 million Dorothy Hodgkin building.

Funded with a grant of £8 million from the Wellcome Trust and £10 million from the University of Bristol, all the medical facilities in this state-of-the art Clinical Research Institute are now complete.

Called the Dorothy Hodgkin Building after the University's Nobel Prize-winning fifth Chancellor, research in the laboratories will provide radical new approaches to the treatment of stress-related disorders, hormonal and psychiatric disease and Alzheimer's Disease.

The University of Bristol already has an international reputation in the field of neuroendocrinology, but scientists are scattered across a number of buildings that offer no scope for expansion.

The new building will allow research teams to join forces on a single site with the space they need and facilities of the highest standard.
