In 2008 the Library will be carrying out exciting refurbishment projects in two branches.

In the Arts and Social Sciences Library, a major refurbishment of the ground floor will take place. In the Medical Library, a project to redevelop two floors, funded in part by the Wolfson Trust, is under way.

The focus of both projects is to provide a modern learning environment for users with a greater number and enhanced range of study spaces and new refreshment facilities. The projects are overseen by the Library Capital Projects Board, which includes representatives from academic staff, the Students’ Union, University Estates Services and Information Services.

Both libraries will remain open throughout the projects. Building work will begin on both sites in June 2008. The aim is to complete the refurbishments by the end of 2008, minimising disruption wherever possible and maintaining a high level of service to our users.
