Paul Winchester 1957-2008

25 November 2008

Paul Winchester, a member of portering staff, passed away on 18 November after a short illness, writes Liz Lynch.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of one of our current portering staff. Paul Winchester passed away on Tuesday 18 November at the age of 51, after a short illness.

Paul started work with the University and Site Services as a porter in 1980, and worked in buildings all over the precinct in his 28 years of service. In recent years Paul spent his time between Chemistry, the teaching labs and the School of Medical Sciences.

Paul was a private person who liked to get on with the job in hand. His knowledge and experience of the buildings was impressive, and if Paul was asked to take the helm, you knew the job would get done.

Paul’s illness was relatively short; everyone was shocked and saddened by his sudden death. Paul’s funeral will take place at 2.30pm on Thursday 27 November at Westerleigh Crematorium.

We have passed on our condolences to Paul’s family. We know he will be missed by many friends and colleagues here at Site Services and the University of Bristol.

Liz Lynch, Site Services Manager
