New SMS text messaging policy

1 October 2009

The University has approved an SMS text messaging policy.

The new policy sets out the ways in which SMS text messaging can be used appropriately to pass on important information to staff and students. SMS messages can have an advantage over other forms of communication, particularly in emergencies, because they can be delivered quickly to a wide audience.

The policy contains clear guidelines on the conditions of use and the actions that should be followed by those wishing to use SMS text messaging, as well as advice on choosing a suitable service provider.

The full policy is available on the University governance website.
