Music by three University of Bristol students on the MA in Composition for Film and Television (MACFTV) has been used on the soundtrack for the summer showcase of Icon Films.

The students — Alex Burnett, Oliver Howlett and Andreas Michalopoulos — were among 16 students on the MACFTV given the task of scoring a wildlife showreel  for Bristol-based production company Icon Films.

The film company, well known for creating a broad range of factual content, was  looking for a dramatic, adventurous and pacy score that would help tie the showreel  together as well as highlight and accent key moments in the film. In the end the company chose three winning scores to accompany the two-minute film, and all three will be shown in rotation on the Icon Films homepage.

In addition to these three scores, Icon Films has also commissioned another student from the MACFTV, Joe Newton, to compose the score for its forthcoming short film One Planet Living.

Composition teacher William Goodchild, who proposed the collaboration to Icon Films, said:  ‘We were absolutely delighted to take part in this fascinating project with Icon Films. All the students produced a wide range of high-quality and original musical compositions, three of which will now be used to help promote the work of a significant film company based in the South West. This is a major accolade for the students.’

You can read more about the project and listen to the winning scores on the Icon Films What’s Going On? page.
