Undergraduate study

Psychiatry is a medical discipline that tries to alleviate the suffering associated with mental illness. It is based on knowledge of the mind, brain and body, and as such when practised well, is truly holistic.

Awareness of mental health issues is introduced in year 1 and psychiatry is taught throughout the 5 year MB ChB Medicine course, building in complexity and integration as the course progresses. The main 'hub' psychiatry teaching takes place in year 4 of the MB ChB Medicine course.

The Centre also hosts a Certificate of Psychiatry Undergraduate Education. This aims to enhance knowledge and develop skills for our wider Clinical Academy teacher faculty. The Academies provide clinical training within the Bristol Medical School footprint, which includes Swindon, Gloucester, Bath, Bristol, Weston and Taunton.
