Modern language requirements

If you are applying to the BA Modern Languages (R900) course but are not currently studying a modern language at A level, we are happy to consider applications from those offering an independent language diploma at B1 level as a demonstration of language skills.

The independent language diplomas we would consider for the following languages; French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Russian. These diplomas are assessed against the criteria set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and can be studied in your own time or through a language centre.  These diplomas will be considered when taken in addition to three A levels or equivalent qualifications as outlined in our course finder. You will need to declare your intention to take one of the qualifications below on your UCAS application form as well as submit your results when they are available to you.

We will consider applications with any of the qualifications below. Other standalone language qualifications at B1 (or equivalent) level in any modern language will be considered on an individual basis.
