Examples of scholarship projects

To commemorate Dick Smith's role in the teaching of reptile medicine, a Memorial Fund has been set up by the School of Anatomy, with a view to financing a scholarship related to education in anatomy in general and exotic species in particular.

Scholarship projects previously funded by the Dick Smith fund include:

2011 – A six month extension to an Assistant Teacher's post (Chris Moore) (CETL funded pot project). Creation of educational materials including potted specimens, online e-learning tutorials for revision and enhancement, and a research study.

2008 – Six months funding (approx. £12,000) towards a two year MSc/Teaching Studentship. The role included producing real3danatomyLet’s Dissect and working towards a MSc thesis. (Rachel Bishop)

2006 – Two Summer Studentships working on the image bank and CAL corrections.

2004 – The Dick Smith fund contributed £1,800 towards Summer Studentship creating wet prosections, dissecting specimens to be potted and producing/editing CAL tutorials and dissection guides.

2003 – The Dick Smith fund contributed £1,800 towards Two Summer Studentships to stream abdomen and pelvis dissection videos digitally and incorporate them into existing CALnet (Computer Assisted Learning) tutorials, and edit and catalogue the videos into a searchable database.
