Our research asks questions about teaching, learning and leadership
We are committed to undertaking research that asks questions about teaching, learning and leadership. The School of Education is ranked among the top five in UK for research excellence.
Research centres and networks
The School of Education is home to five research centres - each engaged in a programme of systematic research, capacity building and impact generation, around their particular substantive and methodological concerns.
The School is also home to a number of networks that form around a particular issue area. Their aim is to stimulate lively debate around these issues, and contribute to new understandings.
Centre for Comparative and International Research in Education (CIRE)
CIRE brings together researchers, who address issues of social, environmental and epistemic justice in education theory, policy and practice with a comparative sensibility to global-local dynamics.
Centre for Educational Assessment and Evaluation (CAERe)
CAERe focuses on policy and practice issues of assessment and evaluation at all levels of the education system.
Centre for Psychological Approaches for Studying Education (PASE)
PASE focuses on core psychological issues and how they relate to education.
Centre for Knowledge Culture and Society (KCS)
KCS focuses on understanding the cultures and politics of knowledge production, education and learning in contemporary society and their implications for socially just and sustainable futures.
Centre for Multilevel Modelling
CMM focuses on producing new statistical methods for tackling research questions, developing new software for implementing this methodology and disseminating these techniques to the national and international social science community.
Research Networks are flexible groupings of academic staff who are interested in a research topic which crosses the natural boundaries of existing Research Centres. Find out about our research networks.
