Personal profile

Professor Paul Cousins, the Head of School at the School of Economics, Finance and Management joined us from the Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester, where he taught as Professor of Operations Management and was the Deputy Director of the School and Director of Research for four years. He also served as Head of Department of Decision Sciences and Operations Management.

Professor Cousins has held a variety of private sector and academic posts – he worked in industry for Westland Helicopters and Sikorsky Aircraft in the US, and he held a senior position in strategy consultants A.T. Kearney. He has also worked for the universities of Bath and Melbourne and held a Professorship at Queen's University Belfast, before moving to Manchester Business School in 2005.

There he was actively involved in a range of research projects on supply chain strategy and inter-firm relationship management, including Environmental Supply Risk Management with Tesco. In addition, he built a world-class research network in Supply Chain Management and acted as the Director of the Supply Chain Management Research Group.

Professor Cousins has also published widely as the author of four books and more than 40 published journal papers on the topics of operations and supply chain management. He still sits on the editorial board of several leading international journals.
