Postgraduate study

More than a century since Bristol produced its first aircraft, the South West is now one of the largest centres for aerospace in Europe. The Aerospace Engineering department has close links with major industrial companies, including AgustaWestland, Airbus and Rolls-Royce. Our curriculum is tightly linked to our research and our academics are world leaders in aerodynamics, composites, control, vibrations and systems.

Research programme

  • PhD / MSc by research Aerospace Engineering

Research within the department and faculty is organised via cross-faculty research groups. Research interests in Aerospace Engineering are pursued via three major interest groups: fluid flow and aerodynamics, Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS), dynamics and control.

Research programme

PhD in experimental aeroacoustics

Brilliant graduates from Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering are encouraged to apply for a three-year fully-funded PhD studentship in the field of experimental aeroacoustics. The PhD project, "Aeroacoustics of jet installation" will involve collaboration with industrial partners and with international research groups in the field of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics.

Taught programme

  • MSc Advanced Composites

This MSc provides you with an in-depth theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of advanced composite materials. The programme is based in the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS), one of the world's leading centres in composite materials, which houses a number of state-of-the-art composites manufacturing facilities.
