Gabe Tan: Vodafone World of Difference UK programme winner
3 March 2013
Ms Gabe Tan, Research Assistant in the Law School, is one of this year's Vodafone World of Difference Winners. The World of Difference UK programme gives 500 people the chance to work for their dream charity, and get paid. Over the years the programme has helped hundreds of people donate their skills and experience to the charities of their choice.
I hope that I can make use of this opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the Innocence Network UK and the vital work that it does in the area of wrongful convictions.
At the Induction Day on the 28th March 2013 at Vodafone HQ in Newbury, Gabe meet with other World of Difference winners and heard charity ambassadors like Gok Wan and Simon Weston give inspirational talks about the value of charitable work to the most vulnerable in British society. The Vodafone Foundation provides successful applicants' chosen charities with £2,500, with each winner receiving the balance as a salary after NI and tax have been paid. Placements are full-time for two months or part-time for four months (minimum 15 hours a week).Gabe will use her award to make a real difference to the Innocence Network UK (INUK), a not-for-profit organisation based in the Law School, that is doing vital work in the area of wrongful convictions.
