The Staff Coaching Service all work to a common set of values.
We are:


  • Impartial

    We do not know you and do not know the best course of action for you to take. We do not have a vested interest in the decisions that you make.

  • Purposeful

    The conversations that we will have together will have a purpose. The purpose is set by you not by us: you decide what you want to get out of the coaching. It is not a chat.

  • Collaborative

    We will work with you as a collaborator in the questions you are exploring. We will not collude with you, in that we will challenge thought patterns and behaviours which we think may not be helpful to you.

  • Honest

    You can ask us to provide you with honest feedback on any aspect of our conversations. This can be helpful in developing self-awareness and in particular in developing your interview technique.

  • Contractual

    We will enter into a contract with you about what it is that you want to get out of the career coaching. Both coach and client will have work to do as part of this contract.

  • Confidential

    We will not disclose to anyone outside the service information about who has used the service or what they have discussed.

Our ethics

As a service we are all members of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and adhere to their professional code of ethics.

Are all coaches employed internally?

Profiles for the coaches belonging to our own internal coaching service can be found on this page. Some members of our team also work on a freelance basis in addition to our work at the University. In addition, we do sometimes employ external coaches for senior staff in specified roles or to give 360 feedback as part of the leadership programmes.

Can I request a particular coach?

It is possible to request to see a particular coach, however you may have to wait longer for an appointment
